About the Awards Show

The Love, LA Awards Show is the grand finale of the biannual Love, LA 10-Minute Play Festival, where we celebrate the stories, neighborhoods, and voices that make Los Angeles extraordinary. This unforgettable evening will feature a comedian-led table read of the four finalist plays, followed by the announcement of the winning play, which will be fully staged and directed by award-winning director Gabriel Romero.


What to Expect

  • 🎭 Table Reads of the Finalists:
    Get a sneak peek at the top four plays performed by a talented cast of actors and led by some of LA’s funniest comedians. These readings bring the plays to life in an intimate and entertaining format.
  • 🏆 The Big Reveal:
    The evening culminates with the announcement of the winning play, chosen by a panel of judges.
  • 🎬 Fully Staged Production:
    The winning play will be brought to life through a fully staged and directed performance by acclaimed director Gabriel Romero, known for his innovative storytelling and artistic vision.

Finalist Bios for the Love, LA 2025 Program

Robin Uriel RussinFinalist, “Sudden Death”
Robin Russin is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and professor at UC Riverside’s Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production. A Rhodes Scholar and WGA member, his work spans film (2 Hearts), television (On Deadly Ground), and theater (The Face in the Reeds). He co-authored Naked Playwriting and Screenplay: Writing the Picture.

Sophie GoldsteinFinalist, “Coming Out on the Hahamonga Trail”
Sophie Goldstein is a Jewish/Chicana director, choreographer, and writer from Los Angeles. Passionate about theater and social justice, she specializes in new works and absurdist theater, blending humor and heart to reflect the human experience.

 

Lauren HolidayFinalist & Winner, “Cougar Town”
Lauren Holiday is a playwright, comedian, and actress who began her artistic journey as a poet and composer before transitioning into stand-up and improv at The Second

 

City Hollywood. A storyteller with a unique comedic voice, she brings bold, transformative characters to life on stage.

Debra GranieriFinalist, “The LA Dating Chronicles”
New York-born and LA-based, Debra Granieri is an actress, writer, and improv performer. Known for her work in avant-garde theater and comedy, she has performed in Women Behind Bars and There Goes the Bride. The LA Dating Chronicles hilariously explores romance later in life and is now in development as a film.

 

 

Joni RavennaFinalist, “The Green Grocer”
Joni Ravenna is an accomplished writer for TV, stage, and national publications. Her plays have been staged across the U.S. and internationally. She is also the co-author of You Let Some GIRL Beat You, praised by Forbes as a “stunning portrayal” of a sports legend.

Chris Gonzalez is a Voice Over professional and announcer for the 2025 Love, LA Awards. Chris is also taking part in the performance and is playing one of our 10 Min Award Winning characters.
